Abstract
India’s centenary of independence in 2047 represents an aspirational milestone: a vision of a “developed India” shaped by inclusive growth, sustainable systems, and vibrant democratic participation. Central to this vision are India’s youth — defined here as individuals aged 15–29 — who constitute a substantial proportion of the population and carry the potential to accelerate social, economic, technological, and political transformation. This paper analyses the multifaceted role of youth in achieving a developed India by 2047 through the twin lenses of empowerment and participation. It examines demographic dynamics, educational and skill development needs, employment pathways, political engagement, entrepreneurial activity, social innovation, and digital citizenship. Drawing on theoretical frameworks of human capital, participatory governance, and youth empowerment, the paper identifies key drivers and barriers, proposes policy and programmatic recommendations, and outlines measurable indicators to monitor youth-led progress toward development goals. The study argues that strategic investments in education and skills, institutional reforms to broaden youth participation, targeted economic policies, and enabling social and technological ecosystems will be indispensable for realizing the promise of youth-led development by 2047.
