Central to this discourse are the concepts of identity and hybridity, which articulate the complex experiences of individuals and communities shaped by colonial histories, migration, globalization, and cultural intermixture. Drawing upon postcolonial theory—particularly the works of Homi K. Bhabha, Edward Said, and Stuart Hall—this paper examines how contemporary English fiction represents postcolonial identity as fluid, fragmented, and hybrid rather than fixed or essentialist. Through close readings of selected works by writers such as Salman Rushdie, Zadie Smith, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the study explores how literary narratives negotiate the tensions between tradition and modernity, homeland and diaspora, self and other. The paper argues that hybridity in contemporary English fiction functions not merely as a cultural condition but as a creative strategy that challenges colonial binaries and reimagines identity as a dynamic, dialogic process.

Keywords: Postcolonialism, Identity, Hybridity, Diaspora, Contemporary English Fiction
2025-11-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Research Work https://journalresearchwork.ijarms.org/index.php/rahul/article/view/62 A Feminist Reinterpretation of Women Characters in Victorian English Novels 2026-01-20T07:55:56+00:00 Dr. Puja singh pujas@gmail.com
Victorian English novels present a complex and often contradictory representation of women, shaped by rigid social norms, patriarchal ideologies, and emerging feminist consciousness. Traditionally, female characters in Victorian literature were interpreted through moral, domestic, and submissive frameworks that reinforced the ideology of separate spheres. However, feminist literary criticism has enabled a radical reinterpretation of these women characters, revealing their resistance, agency, psychological depth, and subversion of patriarchal authority. This paper undertakes a feminist reinterpretation of women characters in selected Victorian English novels, focusing on works by Charlotte Brontë, Emily Brontë, George Eliot, and Thomas Hardy. Through the lenses of liberal feminism, Marxist feminism, and feminist narratology, the paper argues that Victorian women characters are not merely passive victims but active negotiators of identity, desire, and autonomy. The study highlights how feminist readings challenge traditional interpretations and reclaim female subjectivity within a male-dominated literary canon.

Keywords: Feminism, Victorian novel, women characters, patriarchy, gender, reinterpretation
2025-11-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Research Work https://journalresearchwork.ijarms.org/index.php/rahul/article/view/64 Role of Women in India’s Freedom Struggle 2026-01-20T08:38:21+00:00 Amita Sharma amitas@gmail.com
The Indian freedom struggle was not solely a political movement led by a few prominent male leaders; it was a mass awakening in which women from diverse social, economic, regional, and ideological backgrounds played decisive roles. From the late eighteenth century to Independence in 1947, women participated as leaders, organizers, revolutionaries, educators, writers, and symbols of moral resistance. This paper examines the multifaceted contribution of women to India’s freedom struggle, tracing their participation across phases—from early resistance and reform movements to Gandhian mass mobilization and revolutionary nationalism. It analyzes how women negotiated patriarchy, colonial power, and nationalism, and how their participation transformed both the freedom movement and women’s status in Indian society. The study argues that women were not merely supportive actors but agents who shaped strategies, mobilized communities, sustained movements, and reimagined citizenship and nationhood.

Keywords: Indian freedom struggle, women leaders, nationalism, Gandhian movement, revolutionary women, social reform
2025-11-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Research Work https://journalresearchwork.ijarms.org/index.php/rahul/article/view/65 Magic Realism as a Narrative Strategy in Postcolonial English Literature 2026-01-20T08:53:11+00:00 Dr Anita Goswami anitag@gmail.com
Magic realism has emerged as one of the most influential narrative strategies in postcolonial English literature. By blending the magical with the real, this mode of narration challenges Western rationalism, destabilizes colonial historiography, and provides a powerful aesthetic for representing hybrid realities shaped by colonization, cultural dislocation, and resistance. This research paper examines magic realism as a literary strategy rather than merely a stylistic device, focusing on how postcolonial writers use it to articulate suppressed histories, negotiate identity, and critique colonial and neo-colonial power structures. Through an analysis of selected works by writers such as Salman Rushdie, Gabriel García Márquez (as a foundational influence), Ben Okri, Amitav Ghosh, and others, the paper argues that magic realism enables postcolonial authors to represent realities that conventional realist narratives fail to capture. The study situates magic realism within postcolonial theory and demonstrates its political, cultural, and epistemological significance.

Keywords: Magic Realism, Postcolonial Literature, Narrative Strategy, Hybridity, Colonial Discourse, English Literature
2025-11-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Research Work
