Abstract
through coordinated policy responses. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming education worldwide by enabling personalized learning, automating administrative processes, and enhancing access to educational content. In India — characterized by a vast, diverse student population and persistent rural–urban divides — AI presents unique opportunities and challenges. This critical analysis examines how AI is being integrated into Indian classrooms and higher education institutions, evaluates its benefits and limitations, and situates its development in the context of national policy frameworks such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. By synthesizing recent empirical studies, policy documents, and research articles, this paper argues that while AI can foster equity and improve learning outcomes, persistent barriers such as infrastructure gaps, ethical risks, and digital inequity must be addressed.
